Chris Shank and George Percival on Winchester Road

Make Winchester Road safe for pedestrians

Winchester Road is one of the busiest pedestrian routes in our city. Every day, people use it to get to school, work, and the hospital. Despite this, many crossings along the road remain unsafe.

The council is aware of these issues but has failed to budget for the works. This inaction puts residents at risk every day.

Crossing island on Winchester Road lacking pedestrian signals

Crossings lacking push-buttons and pedestrian signals, making it harder and less safe to cross.

Patchwork tarmac on a pavement

Sections of the pavement have become trip hazards and need urgent repair.

A side road junction on Winchester Road with no drop kerb or tactile paving for pedestrians to cross

Pedestrian crossings missing tactile paving create hazards for those with visual impairments.

We are calling on the council to:

  1. Install tactile paving at all crossings on Winchester Road.
  2. Add pedestrian crossing controls where they are missing.
  3. Repair broken or uneven pavements to remove trip hazards.
  4. Commit funding to ensure these improvements are carried out without delay.

Everyone deserves safe, accessible routes in our city. Please support this petition to make Winchester Road safe for all pedestrians.

Make Winchester Road safe for pedestrians

We the undersigned call on Southampton City Council to urgently make Winchester Road safe for pedestrians.
