Residents visiting Shirley Pond Park will be pleased to see a long-standing eyesore finally gone. An abandoned car and burnt-out motorbike that had been blighting the green space have now been removed — thanks to action taken by local Liberal Democrat councillor George Percival.

The vehicles, which had been left in the park for several weeks, drew complaints from local families, dog walkers, and passers-by concerned about safety and the decline of a much-loved community space. After confirming the issue firsthand, George acted quickly to get the matter resolved.

“After years of Labour councillors in Shirley, residents are noticing the difference,” said George. “It’s not about headlines — it’s about turning up, spotting problems, and getting them sorted. That’s what happened with the burnt-out vehicles in Shirley Pond Park: I saw them, got on the case, and within weeks they were gone. These kinds of actions speak for themselves — and they pay dividends at the ballot box in May.”

This is just the latest example of the Liberal Democrat approach in Shirley — focusing on practical improvements, visible outcomes, and hands-on community work.

The team continues to encourage residents to report any issues, no matter how big or small — whether it’s broken street furniture, fly-tipping, or maintenance concerns in local parks.

“We want Shirley to be a clean, safe and welcoming place to live,” added George. “Whether it’s parks, pavements, or public spaces — if something’s not right, we’ll take it up and do what we can to fix it.”

Residents who spot anything that needs attention in the community are encouraged to get in touch with their local Liberal Democrat team.
